Maar voor Leo gaat de verandering over veel meer dan gewicht. Hij kan weer langer lopen, koken en sporten. In korte tijd kreeg hij te maken met verschillende gezondheidsproblemen. \u201cIn 2012 woog ik rond de 100 kg, voor mij een prima gewicht. Maar in korte tijd verslechterde mijn gezondheid. Ik kreeg de diagnose diabetes en vlak daarna volgden er drie hartinfarcten. Ik kreeg een hartkatheterisatie en een dotterbehandeling. En om mijn bloedsuikerspiegel beter onder controle te krijgen, kreeg ik een insulinepomp. Maar daar reageerde mijn lichaam niet goed op, waardoor ik steeds zwaarder werd. In totaal kwam ik 47 kg aan.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner]<div id=\"a2\" class=\"titulo-component align-left color-primary\"><h2 class=\"titulo h2\">De stap naar een gastric bypass<\/h2><\/div>[vc_column_text]Afvallen met hulp van een di\u00ebtist leverde voor Leo niet het gewenste resultaat op. Ondertussen kreeg hij ook slaapapneu. Na nieuwe hartproblemen besloot hij een gastric bypass te overwegen. \u201cIk probeerde af te vallen met de hulp van een di\u00ebtiste, maar zonder resultaat. Ondertussen had ik door mijn overgewicht ook slaapapneu ontwikkeld, een stoornis waarbij je adem tijdens je slaap tijdelijk stokt. Er moest dus echt iets gebeuren. De di\u00ebtiste zei: \u2018Is een gastric bypass niet iets voor jou?\u2019 Nadat ik in maart 2019 kort na elkaar weer drie hartinfarcten kreeg, besloot ik ervoor te gaan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Daarna startte Leo bij het Flevoziekenhuis met het voortraject. Hij sprak onder andere met de arts, verpleegkundige en psycholoog en begon met het beweegprogramma. Door de diagnose hartfalen en later de coronapandemie duurde zijn voortraject langer dan gebruikelijk.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner]<div id=\"a3\" class=\"titulo-component align-left color-primary\"><h2 class=\"titulo h2\">Na de operatie veranderde er veel<\/h2><\/div>[vc_column_text]Na de gastric bypass ging het snel beter met Leo. Zijn insuline kon stap voor stap worden afgebouwd. Ook begon hij gewicht te verliezen. \u201cNa de operatie ging het al snel zo goed met me, dat de insuline stap voor stap kon worden afgebouwd. En sinds december ben ik er helemaal van af. Ook begon ik meteen snel af te vallen. Na twee maanden was ik al 10 kg kwijt en inmiddels ben ik 27 kg lichter. Ik weeg nu 120, maar ik ga door tot de 100. En dat gaat me lukken, dat weet ik zeker.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Alles gaat nu makkelijker, ik heb zoveel gewonnen.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner]<div id=\"a4\" class=\"titulo-component align-left color-primary\"><h2 class=\"titulo h2\">Ik heb zoveel gewonnen<\/h2><\/div>[vc_column_text]Leo merkt het verschil vooral in gewone, dagelijkse dingen. \u201cIk kan bijvoorbeeld weer hele stukken lopen. Als mijn vrouw en ik vroeger een rondje door het centrum van Almere deden, moest ik tussendoor minstens tien keer gaan zitten om uit te rusten. Nu stoppen we alleen nog even op de markt voor een broodje. Ook heb ik tegenwoordig veel minder last van m\u2019n rug. Ik kook graag, maar dat deed ik bijna nooit meer, omdat ik niet lang kon staan. Nu sta ik weer met plezier achter het fornuis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ook andere dingen zijn veranderd. Zijn kledingmaat is kleiner geworden en hij kan zijn vrachtwagenrijbewijs weer via de gewone keuring verlengen. Maar voor Leo is iets anders het belangrijkst: \u201cHet allerbelangrijkste is dat ik van de insuline af ben. Ik voel me herboren en ik ben dokter Smeets eeuwig dankbaar dat ik deze kans heb gekregen.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner]<div id=\"a5\" class=\"titulo-component align-left color-primary\"><h2 class=\"titulo h2\">Ook na de operatie blijft het een traject<\/h2><\/div>[vc_column_text]Leo is er duidelijk over dat een gastric bypass niet betekent dat alles vanzelf gaat. \u201cHet voortraject was soms best zwaar, dat geef ik eerlijk toe. Maar als je \u00e9cht gemotiveerd bent, dan is het goed te doen. En ook na de operatie verandert er van alles: je moet een bepaald dieet volgen en heel goed opletten bij alles wat je eet. Maar ik heb het er graag voor over, ik wil nog wat langer mee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Inmiddels heeft Leo zelfs plezier gekregen in sporten. Tijdens zijn herstel volgde hij hartrevalidatie en hij keek ernaar uit om daarna samen met zijn zoons naar de sportschool te gaan.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Ik voel me herboren en ik ben dokter Smeets eeuwig dankbaar dat ik deze kans heb gekregen.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner]<div id=\"a6\" class=\"titulo-component align-left color-primary\"><h2 class=\"titulo h2\">Meer vrijheid en zelfvertrouwen<\/h2><\/div>[vc_column_text]Na hun operaties veranderde er veel. Niet alleen op de weegschaal. Caroline viel 57 kilo af en Femke 45 kilo. Vooral in hun dagelijks leven merken ze het verschil. Femke: \u201cIk ben inmiddels 45 kg kwijt en mijn zelfvertrouwen heeft een flinke boost gekregen. Winkelen vond ik altijd vreselijk. Nieuwe kleren kocht ik omdat ze pasten, niet omdat ik ze leuk vond. Nu kan ik elke winkel binnenstappen die ik wil.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ze deed zelfs mee aan Mud Masters. \u201cIk ben zo blij en trots dat ik het heb gedaan. Ik kan me eindelijk vrij bewegen. En als ik nu met m\u2019n neefje een dagje naar de speeltuin ga, klauter ik gewoon met hem mee!\u201d[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][\/vc_section][vc_section css=&#8220;.vc_custom_1790819287690{background-color: #FFFAF3 !important;}&#8220;
